Romans 8:1-2

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.

To know the true impact of this verse you have to go back to verses in Chapter 7. Those are the familiar lines of Paul saying, “for what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do…”. (vs.15) and “when I want to do good, evil is right there with me” (vs. 21).

Not only is evil right there with us, but quick to condemn us regarding our sin. The enemy seems to be relentless in condemning us, yet God doesn’t look at us in that way.

Let’s pray for freedom from condemnation for our prodigal. Because of poor choices in their lives the enemy may have lots of ammunition. Christ died for their freedom and He certainly doesn’t condemn them. What a liberating thought!

Proverbs 20:27 (NLT)

The Lord’s light penetrates the human spirit, exposing every hidden motive.

God has placed within us all a light, His light. I like to think of the Holy Spirit as that light. If we have quenched His presence in our life that light can be just a flicker at times but is still capable of searching out our very thoughts and intentions. We are served well to pay attention to the voice of the Holy Spirit; it’s a compass that points to Him.

Another most useful “light” penetrating our spirit is His Word. It has the power to shine into our heart’s exposing sin, even the very motive for sin.

I pray the prodigal will come to love God’s Word and will seek out the comfort and counsel of the Holy Spirit… that they will not be afraid to let the Lord’s light penetrate and expose sin.
