Jeremiah 2:13
My people have committed two sins: they have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.
This verse is a great picture of having two choices. A clear, clean spring verses an empty water source. Where do we look for refreshing when thirsty?
I think it’s amusing that God points out, not only do we try to drink from a source that won’t hold water, we have labored to DIG it! The pull of the world is strong and our nature is to be sucked in. We can labor hard to quench a thirst that can’t be quenched in this world. (It’s broken and will never hold any water) When my prodigal or I forsake God, no matter the temptation, it always leads to more labor than needed and nothing to show for it in the end.
I am praying that the prodigal will stop laboring to quench their thirst in the world and be drawn to the One who gives a never-ending spring of living water…
