Psalm 55:16-18

But I call to God, and the Lord saves me. Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice. He ransoms me unharmed from the battle waged against me, even though many oppose me.

For all we know, the prodigal is right in the middle of the greatest battle of their lives. Not only is the outside world bombarding them with negativity but the enemy is coming against them as well. Even their own selfish thoughts tend to consume them. One sincere cry to God in a time like this and He will reach out and save!

I pray the prodigal is making this plea and that God already has the enemy on the run, ransoming them unharmed from the battle of this day.

Psalm 55:16-18

But ________ calls to God, and the Lord saves him/her. Evening, morning and noon ________ cries out in distress, and He hears his/her voice. He ransoms ________ unharmed from the battle waged against him/her, even though many oppose him/her.

John 14:27

Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

The world may cry out for peace, but even an absence of fear and strife can’t give us peace like knowing the Father gives. The peace we have as believers is constant through the greatest of trials, the worst failures, and times of seeming hopelessness. This peace is sustainable even when everything else around us has failed because it’s supernatural. Jesus freely gives this peace, which is a great encouragement.

I pray that the prodigal’s heart will be at peace; that they aren’t troubled by anything looming ahead of them and that God’s peace would conquer any fear in their minds.

John 14:27

Peace I leave with ________; My peace I give him/her. I do not give to ________ as the world gives. Do not let your heart be troubled and do not be afraid.

Acts 20:24

However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me – the task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace.

Paul was a man on a mission because of a powerful encounter with the Lord Jesus himself. His goal was to run and finish the race Christ set before him. I would hope my goal is the same and that I would run with perseverance just as Paul.

I pray the prodigal will soon, if not already, be on a course that is exactly aligned with what Christ would have for them. As they begin the marathon of living out a life in Christ, may there be a sharp focus on the end goal, encouragement from fellow believers, nourishment from the Word and enlightenment and comfort from the Holy Spirit. If these things are included in their race, they will have a true testimony of the gospel of God’s grace; grace that reaches down and rescues.

Acts 20:24

However, ________ considers his/her life worth nothing to him/her, if only he/she may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given him/her – the task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace.

Psalm 117

Praise the Lord all you nations; extol Him, all you people. For great is His love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord.

If God did nothing else for me but love me, it would still be enough to give Him praise all of my life. God’s love and faithfulness is what keeps me going when days are difficult. There have been times in my life I didn’t feel loved, but looking back I never felt abandoned or hopeless. This has to be because of God’s faithfulness in love toward me.

As parents of a prodigal, many times we are after behavior modification. What we really should desire is for the love of God to capture the prodigal. This can truly modify their behavior!

Let’s continue praying that God’s love would overwhelm and change the heart of the prodigal….

Psalm 117

Praise the Lord all you nations; extol Him, all you people. For great is His love toward __________, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord.

Isaiah 42:16

I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them.

In a sense the enemy has blinded the prodigal. To walk in a new direction may feel like a very unfamiliar path to them; it’s not a life they are used to. Yet, God is faithful to make sure the way is well lit and the rough spots made smooth.

Pray the prodigal senses a “smoothing” of the path before them and understands the Lord will not forsake them. His love for them will be a guide as they choose to walk in this new, possibly unfamiliar, way.

Isaiah 42:16

I will lead ________ by ways he/she has not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide him/her; I will turn the darkness into light before ________ and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake him/her.

Romans 1:16

I am not ashamed of the Gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes…

I love this verse in the Amplified Bible –

“For I am not ashamed of the Gospel (good news) of Christ, for it is God’s power working unto salvation (for deliverance from eternal death) to everyone who believes with a personal trust and a confident surrender and firm reliance…”

The Gospel is powerful. Although many reject it, to those who will trust and surrender to the work Christ has done on the cross it gives life and power.

I pray the prodigal will confidently surrender to and firmly rely on the Gospel and that they will gladly share the power Christ has had in their life.

2 Corinthians 1:22

He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

I hang my hope on the promise of this verse. Because of the Holy Spirit’s deposit in my heart I have a guarantee of salvation and an eternal home with Christ.

Because the prodigal also has this seal of ownership set on their life they need to realize their hope is secure. In all the noise of living a life away from God, may they hear the still small voice of the Spirit that was deposited within them. My prayer is that His voice is drawing them toward a new way of thinking and living.

2 Corinthians 1:22

He anointed __________ , set his seal of ownership on him/her, and put his Spirit in _______ ‘s heart as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

Psalm 143:8

Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.

Nothing gives us hope like knowing there are those who love us no matter how much we have messed up. Humans may fail us at times, but the love of the Father is unfailing.

I pray the prodigal will put their trust in the One who unconditionally loves them and will give them direction as they lift up their soul to Him.

Psalm 143:8

Let the morning bring ________ word of your unfailing love, for he/she has put his/her trust in you. Show ________ the way he/she should go, for to you ________ lifts up his/her soul.

Isaiah 42:9

See, the former things have taken place, and new things I declared; before they spring into being I announce them to you.

The Bible is a book of Prophecy. The fulfillment of prophecy emphasizes His sovereignty and faithfulness as well as the reliability of His word.

I am asking God to declare a “new thing” for our prodigals today. May He give us a prophetic word for them as we believe for a new direction. Let’s pray that the Lord will speak into them new life, courage, vision, and a new love for Him.

Isaiah 42:9

See, the former things have taken place, and new things I declared; before they spring into being I announce them to _________.

2 Corinthians 2:14

But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of Him. For, we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.

God will always lead us triumphantly. If we feel we are being led otherwise, it’s not God. Even in uncertain times, our hearts can live and move in triumph because we know who’s we are.

We are also to be the fragrance of Christ to the world. I have to ask myself… do others I encounter smell a sweet aroma or a stench? I pray my response to all, even those who hate me, would leave behind the sweet aroma of Christ!

I pray the prodigal will soon (if not already) find themselves on a triumphant procession and as they move along, are leaving behind them the fragrance of a lover of God. May they be to Him a sweet aroma of Christ.

2 Corinthians 2:14

But thanks be to God, who always leads ________ in triumphal procession in Christ and through him/her spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of Him. For, ________ is to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.
