Philippians 4:13

I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.

As we begin a new year, these are powerful words for the prodigal and us! Paul could speak these words because he had learned to see life from God’s point of view and move in His strength, finding contentment in every situation. I pray you are moving in the strength and hope of the Lord concerning your prodigal as 2024 ends and 2025 begins.

The prodigal has been living in their own strength for so long it’s hard for them to know what it’s like to walk in God’s strength. My prayer for the prodigal, as they begin this new year, is that they recognize their position in Christ; they are a loved son/daughter! I pray they are weary of keeping up a life apart from the Father and begin to walk the path back, encouraged that they can do anything in His strength. May joy and peace be a mantle that covers them in days ahead.

Philippians 4:13

__________ can do everything through Him who gives him/her strength.

Psalm 51:17 NLT

The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God.

We tend to see someone living in brokenness as weak. Yet, a heart that is repentant and broken over sin touches the Father’s heart.

In Old Testament days a sacrifice was required, but what He desires, from the cross forward, is recognition of our sin and a brokenhearted approach concerning it. He may reject the sin but will never reject us, because we believe in His Son, the greatest sacrifice.

Pray that your prodigal will find themselves broken over their sin; that they will have a repentant heart before the Lord.

Psalm 51:17 NLT

The sacrifice you desire is ________’s broken spirit. You will not reject ________’s broken and repentant heart, O God.

Hebrews 10:23

Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.

To hold “unswervingly” isn’t a… “hold on for dear life” or “cling to”… type of hold, but a grip that is confident; confident in our future hope. God is faithful to all that He has promised.

We have prayed so many of His promises over our prodigal this past year. Now, we hold on to those prayers with a secure hope in His ability to have them come to pass.

I pray our prodigals will have, at some point in time, a confident hope in God; knowing that He who promised, is faithful.

Hebrews 10:23

Let ________ hold unswervingly to the hope he professes, for He who promised is faithful.

1 John 5:14

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.

It’s vitally important for the child of God to take time in His presence, listening to what He is saying so we can act on His behalf (not ours). When we align our prayers with His will, we can approach Him with confidence and know He hears us. Anything we ask, within the realm of His will, He will accomplish for us; and it will bring Him glory.

I pray the prodigal is in a position to step into His presence asking, with confidence, but according to His will.

1 John 5:14

This is the confidence __________ has in approaching God: that if he/she asks anything according to His will, He hears him/her.

Psalm 16:11

You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

Kingdom knowledge is not hidden from those who seek it. He will make known to us those things that give life and fill us with joy, but they are found in His presence. If we take the path less followed, spending time in fellowship with Him, we will feel right at home when the time comes to experience eternal pleasures by His side.

I pray that the prodigal will come to know the joy of an intimate relationship with the Father. May they be filled with joy as they experience His presence.

Psalm 16:11

You have made known to ________ the path of life; you will fill him/her with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

Proverbs 16: 2-3

All a man’s ways seem innocent to him, but motives are weighed by the Lord. Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.

I have to cringe a little at the thought of God weighing my motives, even when I am doing good things. I want to be in tune with the Holy Spirit enough to allow Him opportunity to correct my motives as he asks “who’s approval are you really seeking?”

Committing our plans to the Lord is one way to put our motives in check. If we lay our plan before Him and ask for direction, our motives can usually be trusted, but, can we wait on Him to give direction so that we’re insured success? We all desire our plans to be successful. It’s one thing to move ahead asking God to bless what we are doing and totally another to move as He directs because He is blessing.

Let’s pray the prodigal will have Christ-driven motives and actions and they will commit to the Lord any uncertainty about their future as they wait on Him for direction.

Proverbs 16: 2-3

All _______’s ways seem innocent to him/her, but motives are weighed by the Lord. Commit to the Lord whatever you do, _________, and your plans will succeed.

2 Corinthians 5:21

God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.

I don’t fully understand the work of the cross, of someone taking on the sin of the whole world. But that is exactly what the Christ child came to do. Because it is God’s doing, we must believe it is done.

The ability to stand before God righteous and redeemed was paid in full by the death of Jesus. Thanksgiving should be the song of our heart because of this great gift.

I pray the prodigal will understand the concept of being righteous before God because Christ was willing to become sin for them; may it move them to thanksgiving and give them new hope for the year ahead.

2 Corinthians 5:21

God made Him who had no sin to be sin for __________, so that in Him __________ might become the righteousness of God.

Isaiah 12:2

Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord, is my strength and my song; He has become my salvation.

As we celebrate His birth today, may we all be reminded that this little babe was given the name Jesus, which means “the Lord saves!”

Let’s pray today that as the prodigal trusts in the Lord, all fear vanishes. May Jesus become a strength and song for them; their very salvation. This is what He was born to do!

Isaiah 12:2

Surely God is ________’s salvation; he/she will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord, is ________’s strength and his/her song; He has become ________’s salvation.

Psalm 46:10a

Be still and know that I am God.

Christmas Eve…. there, in the stillness of the night, the Savior was born. I’m not sure Mary and Joseph could grasp all that this little one would be and do. Could they imagine that this tiny baby would grow up to bear the sin of the world and be a redeemer of men?

I pray the prodigal will experience a stillness this Christmas; time to contemplate what the Christ-child came to do for them personally. I pray the thought of God’s great love will overwhelm their heart and start them on a new path of a love relationship with Him like they have never known.

Psalm 46:10a

Be still, __________, and know that I am God.

Romans 15:13

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace, as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Joy, peace, hope are all ours as we trust in Christ. There is no other religion and no other person who can bring this kind of hope, joy and peace. All others require work in order to satisfy an earthly man’s expectations; or the expectations of a fabricated idol. How blessed we are to have a personal God who has delivered us from the consequences of our sin by the blood of His own son.

I pray today for the prodigal to overflow with hope, be filled up with joy to overflowing and walk in peace because they are trusting in Jesus Christ and have been given power to accomplish it through the Holy Spirit.

Romans 15:13

May the God of hope fill ________ with all joy and peace, as he/she trusts in Him, so that ________ may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
