Isaiah 26:3

You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in You.

steadfast – resolutely firm and unwavering

If we are unwavering in our faith in Christ and can keep our mind firm in the fact that God loves us and is for us, our hearts will be at peace.

My prayer for the prodigal today is that they find themselves at peace because they have a steadfast mind regarding the Father and His activity in their life.

Isaiah 26:3

You will keep in perfect peace ________ whose mind is steadfast, because he/she trusts in You.

Psalm 43:3-4a

Send forth your light and your truth, let them guide me; let them bring me to your holy mountain, to the place where you dwell. Then will I go to the altar of God, to God, my joy and my delight.

In modern day, our desire is not to be in the temple or at the altar, but at the foot of the cross. This is where our praise is birthed and where God’s Word will lead us.

My prayer for the prodigal is that God’s light and truth would lead them to the cross and as they stand at the cross they will not be able to contain their joy and delight in what God has done for them!

Psalm 43:3-4a

Send forth your light and your truth, let them guide ________; let them bring him/her to your holy mountain, to the place where you dwell. Then will ________ go to the altar of God, to God, his/her joy and his/her delight.

1 John 3:1a

How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!

Do we really recognize what we have because of Christ; that we are in the “family” and lavishly loved? It should give us great joy and comfort to know that we have all the rights and privileges of our Father’s Kingdom; we are a child of the King!

My prayer today, is that the prodigal will be overwhelmed by the love God lavishes on them as His child. May it capture them, turn them upside down and be a turning point in their walk with Him.

1 John 3:1a

How great is the love the Father has lavished on ________, that he/she should be called the child of God! And that is what ________ is!

Proverbs 19:21

Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.

I’m a good planner and expectations run high that the plan will work but I have to remember God has final authority in my life. It serves me well to remember there is purpose in every event and every season, even when life doesn’t go exactly as I might have planned.

I pray that the prodigal is learning to seek God’s will over their plans and that they would truly desire His purposes to prevail in their life.

Proverbs 19:21

Many are the plans in ________’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.

1 Peter 1:3-4

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade—kept in heaven for you.

Living hope is what the resurrection of Christ gives. It’s an expectation that we, too, will rise again and be handed our inheritance by the Lord himself – our salvation. This hope is what keeps us going through the challenges of life.

My prayer for the prodigal is that they are hopeful today. They may not have even the slightest thought of their inheritance in Christ, but as they turn and begin to make changes in their walk with God, may they get new perspective that lifts them above their circumstances.

1 Peter 1:3-4

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy He has given ________ new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade—kept in heaven for _________.

Psalm 25:7 NLT

Do not remember the rebellious sins of my youth. Remember me in the light of your unfailing love, for you are merciful, O Lord.

We plead for forgiveness, not because of our merit but because we know He is a merciful God. When it comes to our rebellion, we have nothing else to stand on but His mercy and unfailing love… and that is enough to lift the weight of guilt from our heart.

I pray the prodigal will come to realize their rebellion, own up to it and rely fully on the mercy of the Lord’s unfailing love.

Psalm 25:7 NLT

Do not remember the rebellious sins of _________’s youth. Remember him/her in the light of your unfailing love, for you are merciful, O Lord.

Micah 7:19 NLT

Once again you will have compassion on us. You will trample our sins under your feet and throw them into the depths of the ocean!

Israel knew by experience that God was forgiving and compassionate. He had patience with them time and time again. Because of Christ, we have been included in God’s covenant of forgiveness along with all who believe in Him. I love that the memory of our sin is thrown into the depth of the sea.

I pray the prodigal will realize how compassionate the Lord is toward them. That Christ has trampled our sins under His feet and they have disappeared into the depths of the sea.

Micah 7:19 NLT

Once again you will have compassion on _________. You will trample his/her sins under your feet and throw them into the depths of the ocean!

Galatians 5:16-18

So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. But, if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.

This verse indicates if we allowed the Spirit to lead us we wouldn’t need the law. Isn’t that amazing? It’s true though, the world would be at peace and love would abound if each of us lived by the Holy Spirit.

Because we live in a fallen world and the prince is our enemy, sinful desires and the Holy Spirit residing in us are in conflict. Even our own carnal man will conflict with the Spirit.

We will labor to live by the Spirit until this world ends and the new begins. Verse 24 of this same chapter gives us the key to how we can be victorious….“Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to His cross and crucified them there.”(NLT)

I know the prodigal has felt, or is feeling this conflict within them. I am praying today that the prodigal would nail their passions to the cross and take up the cause of Christ. That they would win the battle over their sinful desires so that God’s desires become theirs. In the process may they learn tremendous lessons in being led along by the Spirit.

But, if ________ is led by the Spirit, he/she is not under law.

Isaiah 49:16a

See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands…

Don’t you love the thought of this? One commentary explains this portion of vs. 16 like this — “His setting them as a mark on his hand denotes his being ever mindful of them and his setting them also as a seal upon his heart.”

It gives me great comfort to know our prodigals are always on His mind and His heart. He sees and knows and makes provision for them.

Isaiah 49:16a

See, I have engraved _________ on the palms of my hands…

Psalm 27:14

Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.

Sometimes, all we can do is wait; wait for the Lord to move or act. It’s in these times we might need courage just to be able to wait. We live in a world that can deliver instant gratification and seeming solutions at lightening speed. But we need to be cautious and not move ahead of God or act too hastily bypassing His plan, a plan which would be for my good and the good of those I love.

My prayer for the prodigal and those waiting for their return is that each of you will take heart and be strong through some times of doubt and uncertainty. May the Holy Spirit bring encouragement to the prodigal when they lack faith or are weary in the journey. I pray they find peace and renewed joy while they wait.

Psalm 27:14

Wait for the LORD ___________; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.
