Proverbs 18:10

The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.

His name is a strong tower indeed; a place of safety! It gives me comfort to know there is a strong and safe place for the prodigal to run.

I pray our prodigals will learn to run right to the Father. It’s as easy as whispering His name.

Proverbs 18:10

The name of the Lord is a strong tower; _________ runs to it and is safe.

Psalm 128:1-2

Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in His ways. You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours.

Anyone would want prosperity and blessing for their loved ones. It will come to them as they fear the Lord and walk in His ways. The walk may not look perfect but God rewards even our efforts! He knows the intent of our heart.

My prayer for the prodigal is that they would be in awe of a Sovereign God; that their hearts would be touched by the sacrifice made on their behalf and desire to live a life worthy of that sacrifice. Let’s also pray that God will provide work for them to do, that they feel useful and productive. May blessing and prosperity be theirs.

Psalm 128-1-2

Blessed is ___________ who fears the Lord, who walks in His ways. _________ will eat the fruit of his/her labor; blessings and prosperity will be his/hers.

2 John 6

And this is love: that we walk in obedience to His commands. As you have heard from the beginning, His command is that you walk in love.

What is love? It’s to do what God tells us. What has He told us? To walk in love. Every issue regarding race, greed, war, sinful desires, etc. could be solved if each of us lived a life of loving God and loving others; no conditions, just LOVE!

My prayer for the prodigal is that they would love, love, love…that it would be a natural tendency springing from a close walk with the Lord and a desire to be obedient.

2 John 6

And this is love: that ________ walk in obedience to His commands. As ________ has heard from the beginning, His command is that he/she walk in love.

Proverbs 12:1 (NLT)

To learn, you must love discipline; it is stupid to hate correction.

It would be nice to love discipline, but most of the time we are focused on the pain involved. Remember when your parents would say, “you’ll thank me later”? I think that’s what the Lord is saying each time He lovingly disciplines his children and you know, I do thank Him. What wonderful lessons are learned from a loving hand of discipline!

My prayer for the prodigal is that they would learn to love discipline, that they would see the value of lessons learned in hard seasons.

Proverbs 12:1 (NLT)

To learn, ________ must love discipline; it is stupid to hate correction.

Luke 7:35 (NLT)

But wisdom is shown to be right by the lives of those who follow it.

wisdom — The soundness of an action or decision with regard to the application of experience, knowledge, and good judgment

Oh, to have wisdom in every decision I make! Our past experiences in life should give us a wealth of wisdom shouldn’t it? Yet, knowledge and experience won’t be enough; they must be accompanied by good judgment. The way someone is proven to be wise is look at their life decisions… do they use good judgment? Thankfully, the Holy Spirit will accompany us in our decision-making, giving direction when we tend to lean on our own selfish desires.

I pray for the prodigal to have good judgment, to use their past experience to gain knowledge and then with the help of the Holy Spirit, make wise decisions regarding life. I pray they always strive to follow wisdom.

Luke 7:35 (NLT)

But wisdom is shown to be right by the life of _________, who follows it.

Psalm 33:20-22

We wait in hope for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. In Him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in His holy name. May your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in you.

unfailing – without error or fault, reliable, constant

Isn’t it awesome to serve a God whose love is always reliable, without error, and constant? We can put our trust and hope in that unfailing love.

My prayer for the prodigal is that they are learning to put their hope and trust in the Lord. All the difficult circumstances they have walked through give them opportunity to trust in God and watch Him be faithful. May they feel His love resting on them and find that love to be their one “constant” in life.

Psalm 33:20-22

__________ waits in hope for the Lord; He is his/her help and his/her shield. In Him __________’s heart rejoices, for he/she trusts in His holy name. May your unfailing love rest upon __________, O Lord, even as he/she puts his/her hope in you.

Revelation 3:8

I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.

I love the thought of God placing before His children an open door that no one can shut! The only conditions placed on God’s opening that door are to keep His word and not deny His name.

My prayer for the prodigal is, as they put Christ first and have a hearts desire to walk in holiness, doors would be opened before them… doors that cannot be shut!

Revelation 3:8

I know _______’s deeds. See, I have placed before _______ an open door that no one can shut. I know that _______ has little strength, yet he/she has kept my word and has not denied my name.

Ecclesiastes 3:11

He has made everything beautiful in it’s time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.

We are created for Heaven and our hearts beat with a yearning for that perfect place; we will never be satisfied here on earth. He gives us glimpses of glory, yet when we stand before Him we will understand clearly things we could have never fathomed.

The most pronounced beauty of the prodigal’s life may be yet to come… in time, I know it will shine. I pray the prodigal will cease their striving to make sense of this place and make it a comfortable “home.” May they yearn for a heavenly home and desire to know more of Him.

Ecclesiastes 3:11

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the heart of _________; yet he/she cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.

Psalm 91:14-15

“Because he loves me”, says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call on Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.”

There have been many nights I would lay my head down to sleep and find I was fearful of what my prodigal might have been involved in, danger they might be facing. In those times I was glad I had a verse like this to move my heart to confidence that the Father saw them and had them securely in His hands.

I pray the prodigal will come to love and acknowledge the Lord and that He will ultimately have full control in their lives; joy, peace and protection will follow.

Psalm 91:14-15

“Because ________ loves me”, says the Lord, “I will rescue him/her; I will protect ________, for he/she acknowledges My name”. _________ will call on Me, and I will answer him/her I will be with him/her in trouble, I will deliver __________ and honor him/her.

Isaiah 61:3

He has sent Me… to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of His splendor.

I have seen first hand how God can take a prodigal and raise them from the ashes into a person of strength. It has been an amazing thing to watch; He took my spirit of mourning and turned it into gladness and my prodigal’s despair and turned it into praise.

I hope you can visualize your prodigal rooted and growing in the Lord, a mighty oak of righteousness. God has the ability to take any life and make it into a thing of beauty and strength, for His glory.

Isaiah 61:3

He has sent Me… to bestow on ________ a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. ________ will be called an oak of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of His splendor.
