James 1:2-4

Consider it pure joy whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

Perseverance through trials teaches us how to use them as an opportunity to choose joy. We really don’t know the depth of our character until we come under pressure. Testing also has a way of maturing us in faith. As we struggle to believe God will bring our prodigals home, He might be asking, “do you trust me with this?” I pray that you can quickly reply that you do trust Him.

Even when on a better path, the prodigal will face trials of varying difficulty and length, that’s just part of life as a child of God. I pray that the prodigal is learning to have joy as their faith is tested. May they gain the maturity that comes from persevering through these tough times, and lack nothing.
