Ephesians 5:8

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light.

I love how The Message translates this verse  —  “You groped your way through that murk once, but no longer. You’re out in the open now. The bright light of Christ makes your way plain. So no more stumbling around. Get on with it! The good, the right, the true—these are the actions appropriate for daylight hours. Figure out what will please Christ, and then do it.”

I believe the “light” of Christ is in the prodigal but it is being covered in a shadow of darkness that they’ve allowed to engulf them. The enemy will be sly and relentless in preventing them from seeing that they are truly light; and allowing that light to shine. Jesus addressed this in Matthew (5:14-15) when He spoke about us being the “light of the world, ” a light set on a hill, not as one covered up by a basket.

I pray the prodigal will rediscover the light of Christ within them; it’s been there since conversion. May they live as children of light!

Jude 24

To Him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before His glorious presence without fault and with great joy.

The book of Jude is primarily about keeping guard so you don’t fall prey to false teachers. If we are rooted and grounded in the truth God has given us, we don’t have to fear falling for false teaching. May the prodigal discern quickly when the truth has been twisted. I’ve heard it said, “The best way to spot a counterfeit is to know the real thing so well you can tell the difference”.

I pray the prodigal will be able to discern any false teaching that crosses their path, including lies of the enemy because they have come to know the Father’s heart. May they some day be presented to the Father without fault and with great joy!

Titus 3:5-7 NLT

He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit. He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior. Because of His grace he declared us righteous and gave us a confidence that we will inherit eternal life.

One of the most amazing truths of the gospel is that God has mercy on us, despite anything we’ve done or failed to do. God has been very generous with His grace and mercy, as well as generous with the outpouring of His Holy Spirit….generous to a people who certainly don’t deserve it.

I pray our prodigals have come to the realization they can’t be righteous enough to inherit eternal life. May the thought of God’s generous mercy towards them be an overwhelming force for a changed life.
