Ephesians 5:8

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light.

I love how The Message translates this verse  —  “You groped your way through that murk once, but no longer. You’re out in the open now. The bright light of Christ makes your way plain. So no more stumbling around. Get on with it! The good, the right, the true—these are the actions appropriate for daylight hours. Figure out what will please Christ, and then do it.”

I believe there is “light” in the prodigal but it is being covered in the shadow of darkness that they’ve allowed to engulf them. The enemy will be sly and relentless in preventing them from seeing that they are truly light; and allowing that light to shine. Jesus addressed this in Matthew (5:14-15) when He spoke about us being the “light of the world, ” a light set on a hill, not as one covered up by a basket.

I pray the prodigal will rediscover the “light of Christ” within them; it’s been there since their conversion. May they live as children of light!
