Psalm 119:75-77

I know, O Lord, that your laws are righteous, and in faithfulness you have afflicted me. May your unfailing love be my comfort, according to your promise to your servant. Let your compassion come to me that I may live, for your law is my delight.

In the NLT, part of that first verse reads…”you disciplined me because I needed it”. I know God disciplines, though not every trial we go through is discipline from Him. In faithfulness God wants us to be better, have more joy, bring Him glory. Discipline is part of His loving way of shaping us.

Even with the discipline comes unfailing love and comfort. He is compassionate towards all, and our prodigal needs to be aware of that even more as they experience His discipline.

John 3:16-17 (NLT)

For God loved the world so much that He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent His son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through Him.

On this Good Friday I hope your thoughts will be toward the cross….a place of forgiveness and hope. What a sacrifice was given that day for you and your prodigal! Because of God’s great love for us, if we believe, we are no longer condemned.

I pray the prodigal’s heart is awakened to the gift given them at the cross.

1 Timothy 1:12, 14

I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that He considered me faithful, appointing me to His service. The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.

Paul’s past was one of a scoffer of Christ’s teachings and persecutor and murderer of His followers. The guilt had the potential to stop Paul from ever being useful for the Kingdom. I’m sure in the beginning he thought, “how could God ever use me?” Yet, he was used mightily and the grace of God was even more evident to him because of his past mistakes.

This is my prayer for the prodigal… whatever they have done or not done in the past will not be used of the enemy to keep them from Kingdom greatness but will drive them to be faithful to Christ because they have been forgiven.
