Psalm 90:17 NLT

May the Lord our God show us His approval and make our efforts successful. Yes, make our efforts successful!

One of the most successful men in the Bible was Joseph. God prospered him whether he found himself in a pit, a slave, or in prison. God’s favor was on him; he always rose to the top. In the end, he was second only to Pharaoh. For a little Hebrew teenager, whose brother’s hated him, that’s quite a trip! I truly believe God wants to make us successful in whatever we endeavor to do. The question is – can He trust us to give Him glory in our success?

I want to pray success over the prodigal. As they turn their hearts toward the Father I pray He can trust them with big things. Joseph had no idea when he was in the pit what God had in store for him.

Psalm 90:17 NLT

May the Lord ________’s God show ________ His approval and make his/her efforts successful. Yes, make _______’s efforts successful!

1 Samuel 12:22

For the sake of His great name, the Lord will not reject His people, because the Lord was pleased to make you His own.

This chapter is Samuel’s farewell speech. The people have asked for a king so Samuel steps out of his main role. It’s a reminder to Israel of God’s love for them, how He was faithful to them even when they were not faithful to Him. He starts wrapping up the chapter with the above statement. God made a covenant with Abraham and He was not going to renege on it. Even though His people had been rebellious and unfaithful he just would not reject them. They ended up in captivity more than once and God threatened to wipe them out a few times but He never did. In case we think it was anything the people did to deserve life, Samuel lets us know quickly….it was for the “sake of His great name” that he let them live.

Through the blood of Jesus Christ, we who believe in Him are in covenant with God. As our prodigals are waking up to how much God loves them, and how He has been faithful through their rebellious living, I pray this statement — “the Lord was pleased to make you His own” — would touch their hearts. As much as they (and I) have failed Him, for the sake of His great name He continues with faithfulness towards us….

Zechariah 2:8b

…for whoever touches you touches the apple of His eye.

To know I am the apple of God’s eye stirs my heart. I pray the prodigal will come to know this truth and that theirs will be stirred as well. May it lead them to a life of confident living before a loving Father.

1 John 3:2-3

Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when He appears, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. Everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.

Our prodigal’s story is still being written; they are not yet all they are going to be. God will continue to work on and perfect them until Christ comes. The only truth we are assured of, is when Christ comes, those of us who have identified with Him will be “like” Him!

I pray the prodigal will come to a place of hopeful expectancy as they wait for Christ’s return because they know they will not only see Him but be like Him! I pray they are motivated to live pure lives and be prepared for that day.

Psalm 119:36-37

Turn my heart toward your statutes and not toward selfish gain. Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your word.

We live in a society driven by selfish gain. Money represents power, influence, and success. For many, money is a god. Money can buy certain comforts and offer some security but far more valuable than earthly wealth is a heavenly treasure that we store up by living according to God’s Word. It will be in our best interest in the long run to value obedience over acquiring financial gain.

The prodigal in Jesus’ parable experienced what selfish gain brings. He came to his senses, had his eyes turned away from the worthless and towards what he should have valued. I pray the prodigal will not be driven to selfish gain; that they see clearly the “worthless” in their lives and are willing to be restored according to God’s Word.

Psalm 119:36-37

Turn ________’s heart toward your statutes and not toward selfish gain. Turn ________’s eyes away from worthless things; preserve his/her life according to your word.

Isaiah 32:8

But, the noble man makes noble plans, and by noble deeds he stands.

no•ble – having or showing fine personal qualities or high moral principles or ideals; of imposing or magnificent size

We know our prodigals are making plans; everyone does. God is very interested in our plans but our plans need to be noble. Not only does God want us to have high moral principles and ideals but, I think God wants us to plan BIG! The enemy would love to scale our dreams down to an unimpressive size.

I pray the prodigal will always have huge plans; plans that have been placed in their hearts by the Father.  May an awareness of His plans awaken in them as they make plans for themselves.

Isaiah 32:8

But, _______, the noble man/woman makes noble plans, and by noble deeds he/she stands.

Nehemiah 13:31b

Remember me with favor, O my God.

Nehemiah was a man who was fearless; he was a remarkable spiritual leader that God entrusted with the rebuilding of the wall around Jerusalem. Nehemiah wanted to see his people return to their former home. He trusted God completely and would not be intimidated by anyone. The Book of Nehemiah covers about 25 years. These words are spoken as the book ends. After all Nehemiah did for the nation of Israel he knew that he would probably not be remembered for it. He was secure in knowing his God remembered him with favor.

I pray our prodigals will come to realize what that God sees and knows them. I pray they each, in their own gifting, would be useful and profitable for the kingdom; that God would smile down on their activity with pleasure.
