Jeremiah 2:13

My people have committed two sins: they have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.

This verse is a great picture of having two choices… a clear, flowing spring vs. an empty water source. Where do we look for refreshing when we are thirsty? I think it’s amusing that God points out, not only do we try to drink from a source that won’t hold water, we have labored to DIG the thing!

The pull of the world is strong and our nature is to be sucked in. By our own choices we labor hard to quench a thirst that can’t be quenched by this world. (It’s broken and will never hold anything for us)

When my prodigal or I forsake God, no matter the temptation, it always leads to more labor than needed and nothing to show for it in the end.

I’m praying we might all stop laboring to be filled by the world and be drawn to the One who gives a never-ending spring of living water.

Jeremiah 2:1
