Proverbs 30:8-9

Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. Otherwise, I may have too much and disown You and say, “Who is the Lord?”

We tend to be prideful people. When we accumulate wealth or success, we can easily fall into the trap of thinking we are the ones who have done this thing. The enemy would love to perpetuate this lie; he knows God alone is provider and giver of talents and gifts but would love to distract our hearts from the truth. If we struggle with poverty, we may wonder if God truly loves us and will provide for us. Forgetting He promises to care for us and meet our needs is part of perpetuating this lie. When we have just enough, it is easier to keep our head from swelling over our success or falling into pity over living in lack.

I pray the prodigal will have just enough to appreciate God’s goodness in their life. May they recognize the lies of the enemy in the area of finance.
