Hebrews 10:22

Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.

In one of her Bible studies, Beth Moore shared a powerful visual about this verse. She said the only way to get fully cleansed of a guilty conscience is to draw near to the cross. We must come as close as we can to his body hanging there and look up into the eyes of Christ. With head lifted to gaze at Him, the blood from his wounds will drop squarely on our heart to cleanse our guilty conscience. (thus having our heart sprinkled) Such a powerful picture for those who have been forgiven but yet continue to carry the guilt of their sin!

God not only wants to wash us clean of sin but our guilt regarding it as well. I pray the prodigal will not fear drawing near the cross; that they quickly find forgiveness and acceptance there. I pray they will lift their gaze toward the face of Christ for that sprinkling of blood on their hearts.
