Psalm 37:4
Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.
To delight in someone means to experience great pleasure and joy in his or her presence. You have to know that person well; spend time with them. To delight in the Lord would encompass not only finding delight in His presence but also taking delight in obeying Him. When we know Him intimately and delight in obedience, the desires of our heart line up with His desires. It’s then, very easy for Him to give us the desires of our heart.
In my Bible beside this verse I have written a quote (I didn’t write down who said it but I think it was Beth Moore) –
“Hearts not surrendered to God can seldom be trusted!”
If we don’t value what He values how could He trust us with the desires of our heart?
I am praying that the prodigal will delight in the Lord; take delight in being obedient to Him. In return, I pray God would give them the desires of their heart because they are trustworthy.
