Proverbs 16: 2-3

All a man’s ways seem innocent to him, but motives are weighed by the Lord. Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.

I have to cringe a little at the thought of God weighing my motives, even when I am doing good things. I want to be in tune with the Holy Spirit enough to allow Him opportunity to correct my motives as he asks “who’s approval are you really seeking?”

Committing our plans to the Lord is one way to put our motives in check. If we lay our plan out before Him and ask for direction, our motives can usually be trusted, but, can we wait on Him to give direction so that we’re insured success? We all desire our plans to be successful. It’s one thing to move ahead asking God to bless what we are doing and totally another to move as He directs because He is blessing.

Let’s pray the prodigal will have Christ-driven motives and actions and they will commit to the Lord any uncertainty about their future as they wait on Him for direction.
