Psalm 119:36-37
Turn my heart toward your statutes and not toward selfish gain. Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your word.
We live in a society driven by selfish gain. Money represents power, influence, and success. For many, money is a god. Money can buy certain comforts and offer some security but far more valuable than earthly wealth is a heavenly treasure that we store up by living according to God’s Word. It will be in our best interest in the long run to value obedience over acquiring financial gain.
The prodigal in Jesus’ parable experienced what a life focused on selfish gain brings. He came to his senses, though; had his eyes turned away from the worthless and towards what he should have valued.
Let’s pray the prodigal will not be driven to selfish gain; that they see clearly the “worthless” in their lives and are willing to be restored according to God’s Word.
Psalm 119:36-37
