Philippians 1:9-11
And this is my prayer; that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ– to the glory and praise of God.
Paul was praying for these early believer’s spiritual growth to be evident by loving at a deeper and more generous level. As they matured, their increasing knowledge and insight should help them live a pure and blameless life.
For us modern day believers, the formula is the same; it’s a process we too should be experiencing. We have been given the fruit of righteousness through Jesus Christ, yet it’s our responsibility to help it grow.
Let’s think big as we pray this verse over the prodigal, as Paul did over his baby believers. That they would grow in knowledge and insight, be able to discern what is best, be pure and blameless and filled with a righteous character… to the glory and praise of God!
