Psalm 26:1-3 NLT

Declare me innocent, O Lord, for I have acted with integrity; I have trusted in the Lord without wavering. Put me on trial, Lord, and cross-examine me. Test my motives and affections. I am constantly aware of your unfailing love, and I have lived according to your truth.

In these verses David is asking the Lord to cross-examine him. He knows his heart has been pure regarding being God’s man. It’s not that he had never sinned, but he was consistently in fellowship with God and cleared his record quickly by asking forgiveness.

As I look at David’s prayer in light of my own life, I wonder if I could pray it with the same confidence? God knows my motives even before I act, so I pray I will quickly recognize my sin. May my affections always be for Him; aware of His unfailing love toward me.

I love the thought of our prodigals being tested in regards to their integrity and standing clean before Him. I am praying it will be so because they have trusted in the work of Christ and are becoming men and women after the heart of God.
