My son, keep your father’s commands and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. Bind them upon your heart forever; fasten them around your neck. When you walk, they will guide you; when you sleep, they will watch over you; when you awake, they will speak to you. For these commands are a lamp, this teaching is a light, and the corrections of discipline are the way to life…

The enemy works hard at driving a wedge between child and parent because of the protection that comes with obedience and righteous living. The prodigal, most generally, doesn’t want to hear from their parents how to live their life. It’s an age old problem — some to have to experience life themselves to learn it’s lessons.

I’m praying the prodigal will recognize the light their parents can shed on life and the discipline they gave when they were children are both worth hearing and remembering. I pray the guidance a godly parent may have spoken through their childhood, would come softly back to their ears as a reminder of not only that parent’s love for them but also the love God has for them. May any parent/child relationship that has come under attack from the enemy find healing and restoration.
