1 Peter 1:5-6
…who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.
The word “shielded” is a Greek word translated — “garrisoned – a military post that is permanently established”.
Having a son who served in Afghanistan and under attack almost daily, I understand the value of a safe military post in the midst of the battle. His unit could always return to its safety; they knew it would be there for them.
Trials are a fact of life, but it’s a comfort to know, though we may walk through persecution and trials of all kinds, we are shielded (garrisoned) by the Father’s power. Because of our faith in Him, there is refuge when under attack. One day, this life will be behind us and we will be handed salvation… I can rejoice in that!
No matter what our prodigals may go through, by faith, they are established and shielded in the Father. Let’s pray that, even in the midst of suffering, they too will rejoice in what lies ahead.
